What is social media marketing? Why is audience engagement important?

Social media marketing is using digital platforms to engage with audiences. It is so much more than just posting; it is a two-way dialogue, it is building a community and measuring marketing goals.

1. Content Creations- is known as the process of creating material to be shared with an audience to promote, inform, and entertain.

A. High-quality posts- must communicate a message or encourage an action or engagement.

– A purpose that is easily noticeable

– An engaging caption

– A goal with a clear purpose

Consistency is key

2. Audience engagement- when the audience responds or interacts with your content and brand.

A. What are the top 4 examples of audience engagement?

– Likes- often shown as a ❤️ below or to the right side of the content.

– Comment- often shown as a 💬 below or beside the “like” button- it is where opinions on the content are shared

– Saved- is found right below the “comment” button or in the bottom right corner of the content

– Shares- often shown as an arrow or 3 dots found below the “saved” button, or in the top right corner of the content.

Other forms of engagement are DMs, which are messages while using a specific platform to communicate with the creator.Reactions and replies are only used in stories, which are posts that can only be seen for a specific amount of time and are displayed in the profile image of the creator. Lastly, links can be found in captions or the main profile of a creator and are used to shop or visit websites.

3. Why is audience engagement important?

A. Increase brand awareness- audience engagement helps a creator or brand to develop a following over multiple

platforms.

B. Higher traffic- Using SSO (Social Search Optimization) in captions and content can help reach different audiences. By using key words in your content, it helps different audiences find the information they are looking for because they look up keywords. Also, putting brands or other products in your caption can help other creators grow their platforms.

C. Build Brand loyalty- It is important to build a sense of community, trust, and connection with the audience. It is also important to stand behind your message and make sure that before you post your content, it is relaying a message you want to put into the world.

4. Popular platforms

A. TikTok is where creators create videos between 15 seconds and 10 minutes, and the audience can watch and share the videos. The main page is called the “for you page,” where you can watch videos generated for you. The goal is to create videos that will show up on different audiences’ “for you page.”

B. Instagram- is an app used to share videos and photos. Instagram is owned by Meta, which Facebook also owned by. It has features such as direct messaging, looking at photos taken at specific locations, and visit brands’ websites.

C. Pinterest- is where you can create pins and boards using already existing pins or your own. It is used to find outfit ideas, recipes, wedding inspiration, travel ideas, and much more.

D. Facebook- is where you can create a profile to interact with family and friends. It is used to share updates, join groups, create events, and post content. You can also use Facebook marketplace if older than 18, which is where you can buy and sell products and services.

Social media marketing is used to inform, influence, and entertain audiences to convince them to support, make purchases, or be influenced by what the post is made to accomplish.
